Pet diabetes is not a death sentence. Although at the time you get the diagnoses it feels like it is. Larry was drinking lots of water and peeing on himself in his sleep. He also didn't seem like himself. I had an amazing vet at the time, Dr. Strelic. I'll never forget the call. December of 2013. He has diabetes and is currently in Diabetic ketoacidosis and a urinary tract infection. It was a medical emergency. She said he could be treated but he would need insulin injections for the rest of his life. That changed my life forever.

Gloucose Testing

Testing is the most useful tool for managing diabetes in pets.

- I'm comfortable with injections on an animal who accepts injections.
- I'll teach you how to test your dog.
- I'll teach you how to read and manage the test results. (many vets charge just to read results)
- I'll help you document and track your diabetic friend.
- Know immediately if blood sugar has spiked or even worse dropped too low prior to injecting to avoid a hyper glycimic attack which could be fatal.
- Learn how to identify and immediately treat a low blood sugar drop.

Insulin Injections

Type 1 diabetics need insulin injections, twice a day, for the rest of their lives. No diet change, exercise or supplement you see online will cure your dog once diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, they will need insulin in the form of an injection. Get used to needles because you'll need to feel comfortable doing this.
- It's not hard and with a little practice, you'll be doing this in no time.
- We'll practice and inject. I'll show you where to inject and how to rotate injection sites to avoid painful scar tissue build up.

*Myth Vets will tell you, you need to use only animal insulin. This is not true. You can use human insulin that can be purchased for half the price and will regulate your dog just as well. Walmart and costco has excellent insulin prices. You can get a script from your vet and get your insulin from anywhere.
